Copilot at KSU

All Owls have access to the Microsoft Copilot chatbot. To ensure data security, use Copilot while signed in using your KSU credentials, and NEVER share sensitive information such as social security numbers or bank account information.

Remember: It's crucial to protect sensitive information when using generative AI.

How to Access Copilot Securely

  1. Navigate to copilot.microsoft.com and use the button on the top-right to sign in using your KSU credentials. This keeps your information secure. 
  2. Note the Enterprise Data Protection icon in the top-right, which indicates that you are now using data protection. Begin interacting with Copilot by typing into the chat box. 

Please note that as of October 2024, your prompts and Copilot's output will be saved and you can view them in the right sidebar.

  • Copilot.microsoft.com with data protection is available for all KSU students, faculty, and staff.  
  • Yes, as of October 2024, your chats will be saved and you can view them in the right sidebar. 
  • Microsoft Copilot connects to ChatGPT, which is a natural language processing technology developed by OpenAI. The advantage of using Copilot with your KSU credentials is that your data will be protected by excluding it from the data training sets used to train AIs. 
  • Yes. Depending on your current search, you might see an advertisement. It will be indicated by a icon with the word “Ads.” You can click on the little “i” next to it to learn about the advertiser. If you don’t want to see personalized ads, click on Ad settings and turn them off. (You might still see personalized ads if companies other than Microsoft have collected data about you.) 
  • You can access Copilot using Microsoft Edge (where Copilot is already integrated) as well as other major browsers like Chrome and Firefox. Detailed instructions on accessing Copilot.

  • For guidance on instructional uses of AI at KSU, submit a Digital Learning Innovations service ticket

  • Yes: The character limit for prompts and instructions given to Copilot is 8,000 characters; the character limit for text responses from Copilot is also 8,000 characters. 
  • Content generated by Copilot may contain errors and should be reviewed carefully to ensure accuracy. 
  • Each individual at KSU can generate up to 15 images per day for free using Copilot.
