U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

The nuclear engineering program at KSU has received another two-year scholarship grant from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems engineering students who also choose to pursue a minor in Nuclear Engineering. The grant will provide scholarships for 24 students, paying $3,200 per semester for two years, through Spring semester 2019.

As a condition for receiving scholarships, recipients must be enrolled in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering programs as full-time students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate satisfactory academic progress in their fields of study, as determined by criteria established by the NRC. The nuclear education supported by this funding is intended to benefit the nuclear sector broadly. Consequently, NRC requires scholarship recipients to serve six months in nuclear-related employment for each full or partial year of academic support. The employment may be with NRC, other federal agencies, state agencies, Department of Energy laboratories, nuclear-related industry, or academia in the recipients' sponsored fields of study. A waiver of this requirement may be granted in appropriate circumstances.

Application and forms must be submitted by no later than November 30, 2018.

Instructions for completion of the NRC Scholarship Application

  1. Complete the scholarship application.
  2. Complete and sign the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Service Agreement.
Note: Please read the service agreement as it contains requirements for the student who is awarded a scholarship. Only complete the section about the Scholarship program (the second category) since the "Fellowship" section and the trade school do not apply to our program.
  3. Write a maximum 750 words essay telling the scholarship committee how a scholarship will help you achieve your educational goals and how you plan to use your degree to support the nuclear industry.
  4. Submit a personal resume.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must be a US citizen or permanent resident, have a minimum overall and major GPA of 3.0, and be a full-time student.

Failure to maintain the minimum GPA will initiate academic probation for the next term of courses, and could result in cancellation of the scholarship if the GPA is not sufficiently improved.
