Earn and Apply Credit Towards Your Degree

Recognizing the wealth of knowledge students bring to their college experience, KSU affords students many opportunities to earn and apply the credit toward a degree. These opportunities include Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST), Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS), and Departmental Prior Learning Assessment Exams (PLA)

Advanced Placement - High School Students

KSU awards credit for the Advanced Placement Program (AP) tests administered by the College Entrance Examination Board. Students should contact CollegeBoard to request electronic submission of official AP scores to KSU or call 1-888-225-5427. Credit is not awarded based upon high school or college transcripts.

Departmental Prior Learning Assessment Exams

Some departments offer departmental challenge examinations for Prior Learning Assessment, which allow students who demonstrate satisfactory evidence of acquired knowledge from prior learning to receive course credit.

Students seeking permission to take challenge exams should  Submit the Application for Advanced Standing Examination form to begin the process. 

 

College Level Examination Program

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to receive college credit for what they already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the examinations. Earn credit for knowledge acquired through independent study, prior coursework, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships.

Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service

Earn credit by examination through the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS). Check with KSU Registrar's Office for information about FLATS exams.
