Teacher Requirements for Birth to Kindergarten & Early Childhood

Birth to Kindergarten and Early Childhood teacher candidates are required to pass a national background check, which will be obtained from Bright from the Start through the Georgia department of Early Care and Learning. Once passed, a clearance [determination] letter will be issued to students allowing participation in their field experience. Visit the CEPP office in KH 3008 to begin the Bright from the Start background check process.

**If the teacher candidate has not obtained Bright from the Start clearance email, the candidate will not be allowed to report out in the field and will be required to withdraw from the course. All teacher candidates must have a Bright from the Start background check.**

Important Notice About Certification

The state of Georgia requires that anyone participating in any course requiring a field experience, where the candidate will enter a public or charter school, must hold a Pre-Service Certification.  This requirement impacts all courses requiring field experience beyond education foundation courses (EDUC 2110, 2120 & 2130).

Candidates admitted to the Bagwell College of Education must complete and submit to the Education Student Services office two forms in order to obtain the required Pre-Service Certification.  The Education Student Services office is located in Kennesaw Hall, Suite 3008.  Forms not submitted in a timely manner could result in incomplete field hours required for a course.
