From our Pronunciation Workshop, to our Public Speaking Workshop, and helping students craft an invitation letter, we offer a number of tools to help students master English communication!

Workshops

  • Come to this English Language Program (ELP) workshop to learn common English expressions, and you’ll find it easier to talk with English-speakers without putting your foot in your mouth.
  • Public speaking can be stressful. When you’re preparing to speak publicly in a non-native language, it can be downright scary. Come to this English Language Program (ELP) workshop to learn tips and techniques that will help you speak publicly in English, fearlessly.
  • This workshop will help international students understand what is needed for the invitation letter process as well as help students create a letter based on a template and checklist that will be provided.

Get to Know Us

Amanda

Amanda Dutton is very proud to say that before she earned a PhD in Comparative Studies from Florida Atlantic University, an MA in British Literature from FAU, and a BA in English from FAU, she earned her Associate of Arts at Indian River Community College. She is deeply grateful and always amazed that she has a career that she loves and wants to help YOU find the same reward in your future profession. It is not often that we get to give back to people and a community that have given us so much and she is delighted to be so lucky that she can do so by serving higher education, especially at Kennesaw State University. It is still a little strange for her to be on the other side of the whiteboard, but she finds it to be deeply rewarding and a heck of a lot of fun. Her students are her passion. Their success not just in college but in careers and life itself is the gift she wants to share with all of the amazing young (and maybe not so young) people she meets as an instructor.

Testimonials

They have helped me so much. The grammar of my native language usually gets mixed with English. Having someone who understands the complexities of writing in English as a second language has made me a better writer. I know what to look for.

The feedback on my chapters I get from the English Language Program is meticulous, which helps me improve my academic writing. I love their mentoring. They are kind and welcoming. I think it is a great destination for international students to go and get help on a host of issues.

After the tutoring, I was more confident in myself and in my ability to deliver a good speech. I realized the mistakes I've made (pronunciation, gestures, tone), and I changed my speech accordingly, based on the remarks of the instructor. I noticed significant changes during this semester, especially for my communication class.
