Kennesaw State Researcher's Study Helps New Mothers

Kennesaw State University WellStar School of Nursing researcher Yenupini Joyce Adams, whose study aims to save the lives of new mothers through postpartum education, was one of only three researchers nationwide to receive a new grant from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN).

Salerno Symposium showcases faculty research

Two faculty researchers were recently recognized for their contributions in the fields of chemistry and biology at KSU’s John C. Salerno Memorial Research Symposium, a symposium highlighting a cross-section of faculty research at the University. Altug Poyraz, assistant professor of chemistry, earned the John C. Salerno Prize for Research Achievement, and Martin Hudson, associate professor of biology, received the People’s Choice Award for Best Presentation.

Prosthetics and orthotics graduate degree approved for Kennesaw State

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has approved a Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics at Kennesaw State University, making it the only university in Georgia and one of just 13 institutions nationwide to offer the degree program.

Johana Figueroa Morales felt honored to be named to Kennesaw State University’s first cohort of Coca-Cola Scholars, but shortly afterward she put the scholarship and her coursework on hold. Figueroa Morales had a good reason for taking the spring 2019 semester off from KSU – she was on a deployment to Afghanistan and Kuwait as a combat medic with the Georgia Army National Guard. The 20-year-old sophomore recently returned home from the six-month assignment and has resumed her college classes this semester.

Exercise science team wins national title

The answer is, win a national championship. The question: What does a team of recent Kennesaw State graduates hope to accomplish next week? Kayla Alesi, Joy Tankersley, Emma Chorney and Ally Kuntz – who all received their exercise science degrees this month – will compete May 29 in the 12th annual American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Student Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The KSU quartet will compete for the national title against 12 other teams in the “Jeopardy”-style tournament showcasing sports medicine and exercise science knowledge.

Doing a World of Good

Maria Mata plans to dedicate her career to addressing global health issues. She’s off to a good start, already traveling the world to gain experience in her chosen field. Mata returned from a semester-long internship in Switzerland to receive her public health education degree from Kennesaw State University this month. Mata’s next step is a two-year program in Spain and France that will earn her a dual master’s degree in public health.

Dual Purpose

For the last two years, Matthew Tikhonovsky has had the opportunity to take college classes while earning both high school and college credit simultaneously as a dual-enrolled student at Kennesaw State University. When he graduates from The Classical School in Roswell in May, he will have participated in the National Conference on Undergraduate Research twice.
