Seeking to advance sustainability and environmentally friendly technologies, Kennesaw State University has launched an exchange program with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Launching in May, the program will provide students from both universities with hands-on learning and cross-cultural exchange opportunities.

The program will begin with 14 College of Architecture and Construction Management students traveling to Norway to engage in collaborative projects focused on environmental sustainability. In June, 12 Norwegian students will visit Kennesaw State to continue these projects. This unique international exchange will enable students to gain valuable knowledge of the world’s leading sustainability practices, with a special emphasis on how these practices can be applied across different environments and industries. This initiative is made possible by a generous three-year grant from the Norwegian government, supporting the shared vision of advancing sustainability technologies.

Through the program, KSU students will participate in joint research projects, workshops, and field trips designed to deepen their understanding of the global sustainability landscape. They will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and innovative research methods, learning from experts from both universities. This hands-on experience is designed to equip students with the insights and skills necessary to address some of the world's most common environmental challenges in architecture.

“This collaboration exemplifies our dedication to providing students with real-world experiences that go beyond the classroom,” said Hazem Rashed-Ali, dean of the College of Architecture and Construction Management. “Through this partnership with NTNU, our students will gain invaluable skills and relationships that will prepare them to be leaders in the field of architecture and construction management.”

The exchange program aligns with KSU’s strategic priorities on sustainability, providing students with opportunities to work on projects and contribute to global efforts in green technology. It aims to build long-lasting relationships between the two universities, creating a network of professionals and researchers dedicated to sustainable solutions.

“We’re excited about this partnership and the incredible potential it has to make a meaningful impact,” said Marietta Monaghan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Architecture. “By working together, we’ll create a dynamic platform for learning and innovation that benefits both our students and the broader global community.”
