Kennesaw State launches Office of Intellectual Property Development
“For all that researchers do well – from identifying problems to generating world-altering solutions – they often struggle to see their research reach its full potential by placing it in the hands of consumers,” Chris Cornelison said, serving as the director of KSU’s Office of Intellectual Property Development. The office, launched as a unit within the Office of Research, acts as a one-stop shop for university researchers looking to advance their discoveries. In his role, Cornelison is responsible for guiding inventors through the process of filing disclosures and connecting with attorneys, as well as linking with potential industry partners for the licensing of property and discovery of market opportunities. – June 09, 2021
Kennesaw State students work hands-on to augment State Department peacekeeping operations
Gauging the effectiveness of peacekeeping operations is no simple task, but with the help of Kennesaw State faculty and students, the U.S. State Department can make more informed decisions for future peacekeeping action. This spring, Ph.D. students joined political science professor Charity Butcher in conducting research to help the U.S. Department of State evaluate its peacekeeping operations. Students worked with the Bureau of Peace Operations, and were tasked with providing a review of existing studies on effective peacekeeping and developing an evaluation tool the State Department could use to assess the ability of peacekeeping missions to achieve results on the ground. – June 08, 2021
Kennesaw State promotes success for first-generation college students
Madeleine Carden was apprehensive about being the first person in her family to attend college. However, she felt at home right away at Kennesaw State through the University’s initiatives to help first-generation students succeed. Early in her freshman year, Carden attended the inaugural meeting of First-Gen Owls, a registered student organization that strives to build interpersonal skills, connections and a sense of belonging among its members. Carden described that meeting as “an eye-opening experience,” as she met several KSU alumni who were enjoying successful careers after having been the first in their families to earn college degrees. – June 07, 2021

Like many kids growing up, Derek Comella was often told not to waste too much time on video games lest his grades would suffer. Now a computer science student at Kennesaw State University, his video game skills are affording him a college education. Recently, Comella became one of the first students to earn a scholarship as part of Kennesaw State’s new varsity Esports Program. – June 04, 2021
Kennesaw State graduate books gig as Georgia Symphony Orchestra executive director
Taylor Rambo is a lifelong musician and performer. While he has always known his career would be in the arts, the Kennesaw State University Master of Business Administration graduate has discovered he prefers to work behind the scenes. Rambo, who earned his MBA from the Michael J. Coles College of Business in Spring 2021, recently was named executive director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. Formed in 1951, the GSO programs live orchestral, choral, and jazz performances at venues across Marietta and Kennesaw and oversees the Georgia Youth Symphony with music programs in more than 127 Georgia schools. – June 03, 2021

Kennesaw State awarded NIH grant to enhance biomedical research and diversity
Kennesaw State University has been awarded a three-year, $809,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to strengthen the University’s research and diversity infrastructures in the biomedical fields. The Office of Research will manage this institutional grant, which comes from the Sponsored Programs Administration Development (SPAD) program administered by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences on behalf of NIH. – June 02, 2021
Baseball coach Mike Sansing retires after 30 years at Kennesaw State
