University is helping fuel the area’s bustling economy

Kennesaw State University is a major economic engine in metro Atlanta, ranking as one of the 25 largest employers in the region according to the latest figures from the Metro Atlanta Chamber.

KSU placed 22nd in the Chamber’s list of 2018-19 Metro Atlanta Top Employers, which is based on the number of full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). Kennesaw State’s FTE of 5,488 employees placed the University ahead of organizations such as Bank of America, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Lockheed Martin and FedEx among the 233 organizations that qualify as metro Atlanta’s largest employers.

“This is the latest example of the significant role Kennesaw State plays in the economy of our state, region and right here in metro Atlanta,” KSU President Pamela Whitten said. “Along with KSU providing a pipeline of talented graduates to employers in many career fields, we help fuel Atlanta’s bustling economy through the talented and committed faculty and staff right here on our campuses.”

Kennesaw State University had a total economic impact of $1.46 billion in fiscal year 2017, according to a University System of Georgia report released in December. The majority of that consists of spending for salaries and fringe benefits, operating expenses and other budgeted expenditures, as well as spending by the students attending KSU.

Kennesaw State ranked as the third-largest employer among metro Atlanta educational institutions, behind Emory University/Emory Healthcare and Georgia Tech. Delta Airlines tops the list as metro Atlanta’s largest employer.
