KENNESAW, Ga. | Aug 29, 2019
Sept. 5 on Marietta Campus and Sept. 19 on Kennesaw Campus
Kennesaw State University will host its annual Campus Safety Days on September 5 on the Marietta Campus and September 19 on the Kennesaw Campus, highlighted by free flu shots for students, demonstrations of firefighting and rescue techniques by local firefighters, and a visit with police dogs from KSU Police and Cobb County Sheriff K9 units.
Cobb County firefighters will conduct a pair of demonstrations, including setting a mock residence hall room on fire to show how rapidly a room can be consumed by fire and also practicing their techniques for entering and rescuing someone from a locked room. Students will be able to practice their own firefighting skills with a fire extinguisher on a smaller fire.
Kennesaw State student nurses will give free flu shots to their fellow students, and KSU Student Health Services will be available to give advice on avoiding or lessening the effects of the influenza virus. Students also can learn about the many training classes that are open to anyone at KSU and the free LiveSafe app, which provides a direct connection to campus police to easily communicate any safety needs.
Police dogs and their handlers will educate students about the special training the dogs undergo to help apprehend suspects and protect law enforcement personnel in dangerous situations. Specialized vehicles and equipment also will be on display, including the KSU Police Mobile Command Vehicle, the KSU Critical Incident Response Trailer and Cobb County fire trucks.
WHO:
The Campus Safety Days promote collaboration on safety issues among several KSU departments, including University Police, Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Housing and Residence Life, as well as external police and fire departments. Along with the many law enforcement and first response agencies on hand, other participating organizations will include the American Red Cross and Cobb and Douglas County Public Health.
