Location, affordability among reasons KSU is No. 1 in Georgia for incoming transfers
Kennesaw State University is the top destination in Georgia for students who transfer from other colleges, according to rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
In fall 2017, the timeframe utilized for the report, 2,671 new transfer students enrolled at Kennesaw State, the highest number for any school in the state. KSU also ranked 31st nationally.
“Students are choosing Kennesaw State because of the high quality of education and our student-first approach, and transfer students are a vital part of our exceptional student body,” said KSU President Pamela Whitten. “As transfer students become an increasing element of college enrollments nationwide, Kennesaw State is committed to giving ours the attention they deserve to be successful students and an integral part of the University culture. We are fully invested in our transfer students, and they in turn contribute to the exciting energy and momentum on our campuses.”
With its broad spectrum of academic programs, Kennesaw State has a growing and vibrant campus life which often attracts students with its wide array of offerings – including a diverse student body, more than 300 student organizations and Division I athletics. Also, KSU’s geographic location, with two campuses in metro Atlanta, is prime for transfer students who want to gain valuable internship experience with some of the nation’s leading Fortune 500 companies.
Kennesaw State draws transfer students from throughout Georgia, with its top “feeder schools” being Georgia Highlands College, Georgia Military College and Chattahoochee Technical College, according to KSU’s Office of Admissions. Many transfers to Kennesaw State first earn their associate degree at those institutions.
“While students may start elsewhere, Kennesaw State is often their intended destination,” said Natasha Talreja, associate director of KSU’s Transfer and Adult Admissions Services.
In addition to those who have earned their two-year degree, many transfer students are adult learners – defined as those over age 23 – and transfer freshman, first-year students who change schools after one semester.
Some transfer students are Georgia residents who began college at an out-of-state school. Cost often is the main factor in their decision, Talreja said, as students opt for more affordable in-state tuition and the financial aid options at Kennesaw State.
