Initiative recognizes efforts to engage students in the political process
Kennesaw State University has been named one of 83 institutions in 23 states and the only university in Georgia designated as a “Voter Friendly Campus.”
The initiative, led by national nonpartisan organizations Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education – held participating institutions accountable for planning and implementing practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the 2016 general election and in the coming years. The mission of the Voter Friendly Campus designation is to bolster efforts that help students overcome barriers to participating in the political process.
Kennesaw State University is committed to the civic mission of higher education to prepare students to be engaged participants in democracy through its partnerships with the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration, Georgia Secretary of State, League of Women Voters, and TurboVote.
Through the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE), sponsored by the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement (CIRCLE) at Tufts University, KSU assesses student participation in national elections compared to other institutions around the country. KSU’s student voting rate has exceeded the national average in both presidential and midterm elections. ‘
