The Princeton Review’s green colleges guide recognizes sustainability efforts

Kennesaw State University once again has been named one of the most environmentally responsible “green” colleges in the nation for 2017 by The Princeton Review.  It is the seventh time Kennesaw State has been recognized.

The publication’s annual Guide to 375 Green Colleges showcases colleges with exceptional commitment to sustainability based on their academic offerings and career preparation for students, as well as campus policies, initiatives and activities. Kennesaw State is one of six Georgia colleges named to the guide released Sept. 20.

“This recognition from The Princeton Review reflects Kennesaw State’s strong commitment to sustainability and the continued efforts we’ve made on campus in the areas of energy conservation, recycling and farm-to-table dining initiatives,” said John Anderson, assistant vice president of facilities services. “KSU students, faculty and staff are actively involved in making the University a more environmentally responsible institution.”

According to Kennesaw State’s Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability, the University’s green initiatives and programs range from food waste management in on-campus dining facilities, reduction in traffic and pollution with expanded shuttle services across the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses, and expanded recycling efforts to include cardboard collection during student move-in.

Kennesaw State also offers undergraduate degrees in environmental engineering, culinary hospitality and sustainability, and an integrative studies program with an emphasis on environmental science. Courses in other academic degree areas, such as biology, architecture and construction management, among others, educate students on sustainability and environmental issues.

The Princeton Review chose the 375 colleges based on “green rating” scores tallied from data of 629 colleges as part of its 2016-17 survey of school administrators. The survey asked them to report on their school’s sustainability-related policies, practices and programs.
