KSU economist: 'Renaissance' is beginning in south Cobb

Cobb’s tax digest hit a record high again this year — with the southern portion of the county seeing the largest spike in percentage increases.

The county’s gross tax digest has been calculated at nearly $33.66 billion, a 6.5 percent jump from 2016’s $31.6 billion, which set a record high broken just a year later.

Kennesaw State University economics professor Roger Tutterow said that south Cobb is undergoing a transformation.

“We’re beginning to see more evidence of a renaissance in that part of the county,” he said, adding that subdivisions are springing up in previously undeveloped areas. “We’re also seeing some gentrification in older neighborhoods where people are renovating, investing in the houses and trying to rebuild.”
