Simon Pritchard recently graduated with 3.97 GPA in economics
Kennesaw State men’s tennis player Simon Pritchard has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. The awards were announced at the conference’s annual meetings in Savannah.
Women’s soccer student-athlete Brittney Reed also was honored by ASUN Commissioner Ted Gumbart for her three-year stint as the ASUN’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative to the NCAA.
A three-time ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2015, 2016, 2017) and ASUN All-Academic Team member, Pritchard graduated from KSU in May with a 3.97 grade point average in economics. He earned President’s List honors in each semester at Kennesaw State and was a member of KSU’s Coles Scholar Program, which accepts only the top 20 business students in the Coles College of Business. He also is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
“I'm so proud of Simon and it's a tremendous honor for him to win this award two years in a row,” said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. “Simon has been such an important part of our program over the last four years, and he and his teammates have helped lay a foundation for this program for years to come.”
On the court, Pritchard served as team captain for four years and played at the No. 1 position for the Owls since his freshman year, when he earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team. The winningest player in school history, Pritchard has been ranked in the ITA’s Top 100, is a four-time first-team All-Conference selection, and a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District pick.
“It is an absolute honor to be awarded this accolade by the ASUN Conference,” Pritchard said. “It speaks volumes for what the team achieved this year because there's no way I could have won this award if it wasn't for the support from my teammates and coaches. It really is an amazing way for me to close out my college career.”
The men's tennis team finished the season with a 13-8 record, setting program records for most wins in a season (13), best ASUN Conference record (3-2) and best ASUN finish (third place).
