Kennesaw State University today launched the public phase of The Campaign for Kennesaw State, the largest, most comprehensive fundraising effort in the University’s history. The announcement was made during a campus event attended by members of the KSU Foundation, donors and community leaders.

In many ways, Chris and Debbie Pike feel a kinship with Kennesaw State University. From the time Chris graduated from then-Kennesaw College in 1984, the couple has watched the University grow from humble beginnings to one of the nation’s largest suburban research institutions, all the while maintaining a mission that closely aligns with their family values.

Growing up, Justin Schechter said he never felt like he belonged anywhere. The Kennesaw State University junior said, in hindsight, it wasn’t the friends he had making him feel like he didn’t belong, rather his own self-esteem and image. Standing on stage in the KSU student center Friday at the annual Collegiate Recovery Scholarship Breakfast, Schechter reflected on that moment, his choice to seek treatment and the community he found when he began school and joined the Collegiate Recovery Community, part of the Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery (CYAAR) in Fall 2021.

Kennesaw State University associate professor of psychology and associate director of the AMES Research Center, Israel Sánchez-Cardona will embark on a five-year, $6 million research initiative sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) aimed at developing partnerships between researchers and community organizations to address structural issues affecting health in Puerto Rico.

Two Kennesaw State University professors agree that good teachers know they can always learn something new about their craft, no matter how long they do it or how successful they’ve been at it. Professor of mathematics Ana-Maria Croicu and professor of software engineering Hassan Pournaghshband spent a week in May at the University of Georgia after being selected for the prestigious Governor’s Teaching Fellows Spring Symposium, a series of events dedicated to improving teaching skills in Georgia’s colleges and universities.

When Brian Bohannon’s phone rang in March 2013 with an offer to become Kennesaw State’s first head football coach, he didn’t hesitate to accept. At the time, the University had already laid the foundation to launch the program. It was situated in fertile recruiting grounds in metro Atlanta. It had an 8,300-seat stadium with 101 lockers, enough to house an entire football team.

For a parent, there could never be a worse tragedy than losing a child. It’s an intense, deep pain that Diane Davis, the mother of late Kennesaw State University student Tarik Kindell, can never escape, but now Ms. Davis is turning her pain into purpose. With tears streaming down her face and her voice cracking, Ms. Davis paused and took a deep breath to gather her strength. She began to explain why creating an endowment for Kennesaw State in her son's honor was not only important to her, but also instrumental in the healing process.

Occasionally, big ideas are birthed from small beginnings. Kennesaw State University assistant professor Jian Zhang got the idea to study joint movement after hearing about his friend’s toddler who developed some serious sleep issues. Zhang, who has a background working on robotic systems and is interested in how Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology can improve our daily lives, thought there might be a way to combine artificial intelligence and clothing security tags to help find a solution.
