The Marching Owls

"The Marching Owls" inaugural season occurred in the Fall of 2015. The ensemble consists of members from every major on campus, including the Marietta and Kennesaw campuses. Students perform a music and marching audition each year, ensuring the most prepared students earn a position in the ensemble each season. This allows our performances to be at the highest collegiate level possible.

Students are encouraged to enroll in the course prior to auditions using the (MUSI 1142 or 3342) course numbers. With a maximum of 300 members, our ensemble includes a feature twirler, colorguard, and drumline with marching cymbal line.

The class meets on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (of home game weeks, with some exceptions) from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

The program is fortunate to have partnerships with industry leaders: Yamaha, Sabian, Remo, and Vic Firth.  Each of these entities helps make our success possible and the benefit of these partnerships goes directly back to the student membership.

Absence Request

All absence requests for “The Marching Owls” and "The Hoo" Basketball Band must be submitted through this portal.

A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for Dr. Traficante (KSUMB) or Dr. Scheivert (The Hoo) to respond. We understand that incidents occur and “life” happens, but we also realize that these are often rare and out of the ordinary. Most events are planned in advance and can be talked through proactively.

Kappa Kappa Psi / Tau Beta Sigma

Kennesaw State University is proud to have both a chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, the national band service fraternity and sorority.  The members of these organizations are servant leaders and provide invaluable support to the bands. They are the members that go “above and beyond” for the program, assisting with essential aspects of rehearsals, performances, and daily operations.

Each semester, Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma hold many social, service, and fundraising events. There are dozens of opportunities to meet new people, serve the KSU bands, and make life-long brothers and sisters!

If you are interested in joining one of these national organizations, all you need is a passion for band, a service-minded attitude, and the desire to be around people who love music just as much as YOU do!
