Mission Statement

The University’s responsive, professional, legal team provides effective counsel, solutions and education to support the mission of Kennesaw State University.

How do we accomplish the mission?

By:

  1. Providing legal advice to ensure compliance with legal requirements, and reduce exposure to legal risks;
  2. Serving as a resource for informed decision-making, and creative problem-solving to facilitate the University’s pursuit of its non-profit missions of teaching, research and service;
  3. Educating University personnel about legal requirements and risks to prevent or reduce liabilities and legal disputes; and
  4. Coordinating the provision of all legal services for the University, whether through the Office, the Attorney General’s Office or outside firms, to ensure efficiency, containment of costs, and reliability of service.

In serving the interests of the University, the Office pursues excellence in the quality of services provided to its client, and maintains the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.

    Ms. Nkumeh Walker is the Vice President and Chief Legal Affairs Officer at Kennesaw state University.

    Prior to joining KSU, Ms. Nkumeh Walker served as senior attorney for the Fulton County Attorney’s Office, where she managed three staff attorneys to defend Fulton County in public employment litigation in state and federal courts, as well as against charges of discrimination filed with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”).  Ms. Nkumeh Walker began her legal career as a litigation associate with Troutman Sanders LLP in Atlanta, Georgia, where she focused on commercial litigation.

    Ms. Nkumeh Walker earned her B.A. in Public Affairs from Princeton University and her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School.  She is a member of the Georgia Bar and is admitted to practice in all state trial and appellate courts, as well as in the Northern District of Georgia and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

    Carmen Alexander is Deputy Legal Counsel at Kennesaw State University. She joined KSU in December 2018. Prior to joining KSU, Carmen served as Trial Attorney for Veterans Administration, the U.S. Department of Labor and Senior Trial Attorney for the Fulton County Attorney’s Office. In addition, Ms. Alexander has provided EEO-related consultant services and has conducted specialized investigations for local city governments. While her primary practice area is employment law, Carmen has extensive experience as a peacemaker mediating numerous of cases with the Justice Center of Atlanta. She also served as an attorney on staff at the boutique law firm Employment Law Solutions.  

    Ms. Alexander earned her B.A. in Psychology from Mercer University in Macon, Ga, her MBA from Augusta State University and her JD from DePaul University in Chicago, Il.

    Mr. Jenkins is an Associate Legal Counsel at Kennesaw State University.  Following eight years in private practice in Oklahoma and Iowa, he joined the Office of General Counsel at the University of North Dakota, where he remained for fourteen years.  At UND, he merged his civil litigation and intellectual property experience with a broad, general higher education practice, advising several sister institutions within the North Dakota University System, as well as various state agencies on trademark and copyright matters.

    Mr. Jenkins is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Oklahoma, and is a registered patent attorney.

    Mr. Jenkins earned a B.S. in Biotechnology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law.  Before and during law school, he served as a forensic DNA analyst for state and municipal crime laboratories in Maryland and Oklahoma.
