Developing and Revising University Policies
At Kennesaw State University, institutional policies are published in the Policy Portal and the University Handbook. This website serves these primary functions:
- Resource for policy owners in developing new policies, revising existing policies, and/or conducting the annual update/review of institutional policies.
- Central repository for institutional policies.
KSU uses a Policy Tracking Tool to ensure that institutional and curricular policies go through the shared governance review process and to collect feedback, which then gets shared with the Provost and/or President with the final approval authority. Institutional policies undergo an initial review by the Policy Process Council, then are routed to the Faculty Senate, Academic Deans Council, Chairs and Directors Assembly (CDA), and Staff Senate.
Additionally, institutional policies go through the process described below:
- Policy Initiation, Unit, Dept, Individual
- Policy Template Review and Preparation
- Sent to Shared Governance Groups for Review and Feedback
- Feedback from Shared Governance Groups Compiled
- Policy and Feedback Reviewed by Provost and/or President
- Policy is Approved or Rejected by Provost and/or President
- Approved Policies are Available on the KSU Policy Portal
- Approved Policies are Published in the Appropriate KSU Handbook(s).
