Welcome to The Energy Hunter

Energy is everywhere. It's in the trees, the rivers, the earth, and even within each and every one of us. Life would not exist if it were not for the abundance of energy that falls on the earth every single day so its important for us to explore and learn all we can about energy. But energy is relatively hidden. We don't think about it as we go about our daily lives. When you turn on a faucet to wash your hands, people rarely think about the energy required to drive the massive pumps that force that water through miles and miles of underground pipes. When you eat a taco, you may think of the energy you use to cook the dish but do you think about the energy that went into planting, harvesting, and transporting the ingredients to your table?

The Energy Hunter video series wants to change all that. We want to shine a light on issues of energy. We'll focus on helping you understand energy fundamentals while exploring new and sustainable methods for generating, storing, and using energy. We plan to release a video every month so hold on tight and let the energy flow!

Episode 1

As the title of this video suggests, energy really is everywhere we look. This initial Energy Hunter episode introduces this concept and, more importantly, introduces the Energy Hunter video series to the web community as a whole. After watching this installment, make sure to check back for future videos where we'll dive deeper into specific energy related topics and see the wonderful things happening all around us in the area of energy.

Episode 2

In this episode of The Energy Hunter, we visit Dr. Deidra Hodges and her students as she explores new thin-film technology for solar cell fabrication. While silicon is the dominant material for making solar cells today, research efforts all across the world have been focusing on using different materials in an effort to bring down the costs. Most of these new technologies are using materials that are very toxic and potentially harmful for the environment, but Dr. Hodges is exploring the use of earth abundant materials that are non toxic. Come with us into the lab as we see how they are progressing.

Episode 3

In this episode, The Energy Hunter crew visits Kennesaw States's Electric Vehicle Team to find out how electric vehicles work and hear about how they are carrying racing to a new level. We'll see how they converted an old Chevy S10 truck to an all electric drive, built an electric go-cart to compete in Indianapolis, and were the only university team to build an electric motorcycle and race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of the FIM eRoad World Racing Cup.
