October Achievements Faculty and Staff CONGRATULATIONS and WELL DONE!
Professor Ying Xie and Linh Le were granted a patent (US#11,461,383) on Oct 4th. The patent’s title is “Dual Deep Learning Architecture for Machine Learning Systems”. Certain aspects involve a machine-learning query system that uses a dual deep learning network to service queries and other requests.
Dr. Maria Valero and her team were featured in media by 11Alive (WXIA) for their research work. People with diabetes could soon check their glucose without needles. Valero and her team created a non-invasive process that can identify the exact value of blood glucose with 90% accuracy without taking a blood sample. The GlucoCheck process uses light shone through human tissue, in either the ear or finger, and a small camera to capture images on the other side. Valero’s team then uses a model to study the amount of light absorption in those images to determine blood glucose concentration.
Shirley Tian had her first-authored paper titled “Using data science to understand the COVID-19 pandemic” was collected for the World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 Research Database. Tian, X., He, W., & Xing, Y. F. (2021). Using data science to understand the COVID-19 pandemic. Information Discovery and Delivery, 189-192.
Prof. Seyedamin Pouriyeh and his team had their paper “A survey on security and privacy of federated learning” selected as FGCS 2022 Best Paper.
