Goals

Some key goals for the project are as follows:

  1. Design, build and fly Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for industry specific applications.
  2. Integrate electrical, computer and mechanical components to build an operational system.
  3. Perform surveying mission using controlled flights.
  4. Perform bridge inspection at remote sites using controlled UAS flights.
  5. Perform manhole probing and air data collection missions.

Experience Gained

Students will perform the following tasks for the project:

  • Design parts and assemblies of the aircraft using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and modeling.
  • Integrate electrical and computer components to build the UAS.
  • 3D print hardware from the CAD models.
  • Program the computer to synthesize data from various sensors.
  • Perform mission planning.
  • Work in a team to fly the UAS to achieve mission objectives.

Majors and Interests Needed

We are looking for students with one or more of the following backgrounds to take part in the project:

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience.
  • Computer programming experience.
