Goals

This project aims to use the following research and development tools within the Visualization and Simulation Research Center:

  1. 14-Channel & 32 Channel EMOTIV EPOC X Sensor Systems;
  2. Real and Virtual Visualization and Simulation Environment and Tools;
  3. Hardware and Software Tools that Support Machine Learning and Neuro-Feedback Paradigms.
  4. Developing Immersion and 1D, 2D & 3D Content Lessons (zSpace) to achieve brain augmented interface reward generation for the reinforcement of learning engineering concepts and content.

Creating environments that can calculate how much reward will adequately motivate an operand in the loop is of great interest in engineering, and in this research exercise,  electroencephalogram (EEG) sensing and monitoring will be used to generate scenarios and functions that support actions of interest.

Experience Gained

Create and achieve the desired objectives of EEG-based sensing:

  • Using 1D, 2D & 3D content to create lesson plans for the study of attention, distraction & memory.
  • Applying realistic techniques such as machine learning to combine EEG outputs based on individual characteristics in an immersive environment.
  • Using EEG tools and associated software environment to analyze human perceptions and create necessary rewards for the reinforcement of learning and training.
  • Understanding EEG signal studies of numerous subjects and cleaning out anomalous trends and behaviors (signal acquisition, feature ID and extraction, classification).
  • Device control or mental state assessment.
  • Generating visual scenarios (sources) and using responses to these scenarios to create understandable behaviors.
