Experiences of Course-based Research at KSU

Project Description

The purpose of this project is to investigate course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) at KSU, particularly in STEM fields. This is a funded project through the National Science Foundation (NSF), and students will be paid $10 per hour for their work on this project.

Below is a short list of some of the tasks that the students will engage in.

  1. The student researchers will assist in analyzing a survey for faculty, staff, and students regarding their perceptions and experiences with CUREs.
  2. The student researchers will assist in developing interview and focus group questions on CUREs.
  3. The student researchers will conduct content analyses on documents related to CUREs, such as syllabi, department and college promotion and tenure documents, and critical reflections.
  4. The student researchers will be encouraged to present the results of their work at conferences and may assist in writing publications, white papers, and future grant proposals.

Project Departments

The faculty affiliated with this project come from the Office of Undergraduate Research (background in Psychology) and Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Research Requirements

  1. Students will work anywhere from 5 to 20 hours per week on the project, and each student will be paid $10/hour. Hours are flexible and meetings are virtual. We will try to schedule a one-hour meeting once a week with the entire team (two faculty members, one graduate student, and two undergraduates) if schedules permit.
  2. Students with experience or coursework related to survey research, interviews, and focus groups are encouraged to apply.
  3. Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields who have experience with or interest in course-based undergraduate research are encouraged to apply.
