Sunanda Dissanayake, chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, was the featured guest on Feb. 18. She discussed her research focused on traffic engineering, and transportation and highway safety.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Dissanayake spent most of her academic career at Kansas State University, as a faculty member and then as an administrator. Her research has led her to travel domestically and internationally to continue her efforts on understanding and assisting with the best practices to increase transportation and highway safety.
Her work has been published in more than 40 journals and more than 140 conference proceedings. Dissanayake has also presented at numerous national, international, and regional conferences, including the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board, a division of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Dissanayake joined Kennesaw State University in fall 2021 after previously serving as associate dean of the Graduate School at Kansas State during her last three years. She holds a Ph.D. in Civil/Transportation Engineering from the University of South Florida.
