In the third episode of the spring season, Brian Moore, an assistant professor in theDepartment of Psychological Science, was the featured faculty guest. He discussed his work to better understand the impact that traumatic stressors have on military members and their families, in order to improve their health and quality of life. Moore, whose research interests include military psychology and veterans health with a focus on trauma and resilience, joined the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences in fall 2020.
Moore is part of one of five KSU research teams which received a two-year grant from the Interdisciplinary Innovation Initiative (I3). This internal grant program was created by KSU’s Office of Research to encourage collaboration between campus departments and external partners to pursue interdisciplinary research around the university’s four broad research themes.
Moore is working with collaborators Yuri Feito, associate professor of exercise science, and Paul Story, associate professor of psychology, to focus on the preparedness of military trainees. The team is examining the fitness, injuries, motivation, and resilience of military base trainees so that appropriate injury prevention strategies can be developed to help military personnel at risk for physical and psychological injuries.
Moore earned a Ph.D. in psychology with an emphasis in military health from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Moore, who currently serves as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, is a Senior Consortium Research Fellow for the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences.
