Dr. Susan Kirkpatrick Smith is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Kennesaw State University, where she has been a dedicated faculty member for 20 years. During her tenure, she has held significant roles, including department chair and faculty senate president, while continuing her teaching and research in anthropology. Dr. Smith specializes in bioarchaeology, the study of human skeletal remains from archaeological sites, with a primary focus on Greece. She has mentored numerous students, both on campus and in Greece, who have served as research assistants.
One of Dr. Smith's passions in her work with the Honors College is collaborating with students from various disciplines and demonstrating how the anthropological lens can highlight the diversity of humans and human cultures.
“KSU's honors students bring a rich tapestry of backgrounds, academic interests, and career aspirations,” she said. “It is truly exciting to collaborate with students who offer such diverse experiences and perspectives.”
"We are delighted to have Dr. Smith joining us next year," said Karen Kornweibel, Dean of KSU Journey Honors College. "Her exceptional record in student mentorship and her commitment to student success are truly inspiring. I look forward to the contributions she will make to our honors students across KSU."
“I am also grateful to President Schwaig and Provost Pulinkala for their support of the Honors Faculty Fellow and the Honors Lecturer positions. These roles enable us to invite some of KSU’s best teacher-scholars to advance the honors mission at KSU.”
