The MS in Information Technology (MSIT) aims to enhance the career options for current and future IT professionals across all aspects of information technology systems. MS in Software Engineering Program (MSSWE) prepares students to design and build high-quality software and exposes them to the latest developer technologies, tools, and state-of-the-art practices.  As a Software Engineer, you will be involved in research, design, planning, architecture, development, test, implementation, and release phases. Compared to CS, MSSWE specializes in large-scale software development. MSSWE is suitable if you like a hands-on approach to coding and building software systems.     • The MSCS program focuses on the theory, algorithm, and development of computing systems which requires more in-depth background in mathematics. MSCS is a good choice if you are more interested in programming and development. Typical job titles for MSCS graduates are software/application developer and programmer, etc.
    • The MSIT program is applied in nature, concentrating on using technology to solve business problems. Students will learn programming, but that’s not the major focus. A student will learn applications of technology through hands-on labs and real world projects. MSIT is a good fit if a student is interested in problem solving over development. Typical jobs for MSIT graduates are system/security/business/data analyst, DBA, network administrator, IT project manager, etc. 
    • The MSSWE program prepares students to design and build high-quality software and expose them to real-world strategies and practices. MSSWE is another good choice if you are interested in programming and development. Compared to CS, MSSWE specializes in large-scale software development.   • The MSSWE program at KSU will provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience that equips students with hands-on skills, innovative techniques, and forward-looking perspectives to excel in the ever-growing field of Software Engineering. 

    This program consists of five required courses and numerous elective options from other disciplines, such as Computer Science and IT, which allow students to tailor their education to their specific interests and career goals. You can either take the project option, which includes four elective courses and a capstone project; or the thesis option, which includes three elective courses and a thesis.
