COVID-19 Outbreak
Kennesaw State University is presently monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and associated pneumonia cases stemming from a marketplace in Wuhan, China. For more information on:
- locations with active travel notices related to COVID-19, please visit the CDC website.
- updates on confirmed cases, please see the daily WHO Situation Reports.
What we know: Person-to-person transmission is occurring. Immunocompromised individuals (older adults, people with underlying health conditions) are at increased risk for severe disease from this virus based on preliminary information gathered by health experts.
If you plan to travel, check the CDC website for destination information as well as any travel notices. Travelers to locations where COVID-19 is present should:
- Avoid contact with sick people.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Discuss travel to South Korea with your healthcare provider. Older adults and travelers with chronic medical conditions may be at risk for more severe disease.
- Clean your hands often by washing them with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains 60%–95% alcohol. Soap and water should be used if hands are visibly dirty.
All travelers are advised to conduct a travel consultation ahead of departure.
Some travelers may find that their destination country has implemented enhanced health screening procedures, and some have advised travelers to carry a document issued by a medical professional indicating a clean bill of health.
While abroad, travelers may experience closings of public offices and administration, cancellations of large gatherings, and precautionary measures during travel. We encourage all KSU travelers to follow the health and safety guidelines of the WHO.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider.
Travelers to the United States from locations impacted by COVID-19 should expect additional questions about their health and travel history upon their arrival.
Please be advised that this situation is evolving. Kennesaw State University will continue to monitor professional resources. Changes in guidance will be posted to the Office of International Safety & Security Travel Notices & Alerts page as they become available.
