Kennesaw State’s 100% online Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in curriculum and instruction is a great option for you to gain new skills and additional credentials. Throughout the program, you will learn how to lead in the field of education as a teacher, superintendent, principal, curriculum director, or instructional supervisor, among other positions. You will explore the best methods for improving curriculum and instructional strategies so your students can learn, grow, and thrive. The degree is designed for you to pursue advanced training in research-based methods of curriculum development and instruction at the post-master’s level without having to complete a dissertation. You will conduct top-tier field research in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and instructional program evaluation.

The Curriculum and Instruction Online degree program requires you to complete 15 credit hours of advanced pedagogical coursework in your specific area of certification. You will also be required to complete six credit hours in an area different than your initial teaching level of certification to broaden your P-12 expertise.

Completion of the Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) with a major in Curriculum and Instruction program and subsequent passage of the GACE exam in Curriculum and Instruction results in a new Service (S) certificate being added to your existing teaching or leadership certificate.

Note: You must possess a clear renewable T-5 certificate (or equivalent) and hold a master's degree in an education-related field to be accepted into the Curriculum and Instruction Online degree program.

Admissions Requirements

  • Online Graduate Application - There is a non-refundable $60 application fee.
  • Transcripts - Official transcripts from EACH college and/or university you have attended.  
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75 from a regionally accredited college or university

Additional Program Requirements: 

  • Master’s Degree - Applicants must hold a master’s degree in an education-related field. 
  • A clear, renewable Georgia teaching, service, and/or leadership certificate, out-of-state equivalent or departmentally approved equivalent.  
  • TWO Evaluations - Submit the contact information for two sources who can address your teaching ability, commitment to the education of all learners, and potential success as a graduate student. The KSU Graduate College will send electronic evaluation forms to these sources. Two evaluations must be submitted for this admission requirement to be noted as complete. 
  • ONE Mentor Form - This program requires that you have a qualified mentor who meets the GaPSC Mentor requirements at each phase in your program. You can find the mentor requirements and form with instructions on the Graduate Admissions website for this program. 
  • Interview - An interview may be required. If so, you will be contacted by the program to set up an interview.
