Minor in Honors Computer Science and Applications

The Honors Computer Science Minor is designed to provide a credential to high-achieving Honors students seeking to develop a strong proficiency in data structures, computer architecture, and algorithm analysis. Students may need to take MATH 1113, MATH 1190, and (MATH 2345 or CSE 2300) to satisfy prerequisites for CS courses. Student must earn a “B” or higher in CSE 1321, CSE 1321L, CSE 1322, and CSE 1322L, and a “C” or higher in all remaining courses for the minor. Completing these requirements provides a strong foundation in computer science. Students who complete this minor will be eligible to apply for the Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) at KSU without taking any additional fundamental courses.

*If a student enrolled in this minor at any point becomes ineligible for the University Honors Program, the student will no longer be eligible to continue the Honors Computer Science and Applications Minor.

Required Courses: (9 credit hours)
Students must enroll in an honors section of each of the following:

  • CS 3305: Data Structures
  • CS 3503: Computer Organization and Architecture
  • CS 4306: Algorithm Analysis

Electives (6 Credit Hours)

Select 6 credits from any of the following:

  • HON prefix courses
  • Honors sections of courses within the College of Computing and Software
  • Engineering College or Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology
  • Honors contracts in any 3000 or above CS Course
  • Any graduate Double Owl courses, CS Courses preferred
