Master of Science in Nursing - Leadership

The Wellstar School of Nursing offers two leadership-focused Master of Science in Nursing tracks: one in Administration and one in Education. Both offer a convenient 15-month, four-semester full-time format and part-time options to balance your work, school, and personal life. The MSN-Administration program is 100% online, while the MSN-Education program has online/hybrid options with many classes meeting on campus only once a month.

With these programs, you will gain the essential credentials that will allow you to practice in all healthcare settings with the most significant employment potential.

Both graduate programs maintain close community ties with various first-class healthcare agencies. Both degree options heavily emphasize necessary clinical experiences—allowing you to gain valuable real-world training and skills for leadership positions across the industry.

The MSN – Administration path will prepare you for success as a healthcare leader at all levels, including executive positions. This program is grounded in practice and guided by healthcare theory and research. You will fully understand leadership competencies, data and evidence and create a healthy work environment for organized care delivery systems.

The MSN – Education path will prepare you for the ever-changing world of nursing education in a growing digital world. Grounded in best practices and guided by healthcare theory and research, you will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to provide leadership as a nursing instructor or a clinical nurse educator.

The MSN learning environment at KSU is welcoming and flexible, with small classes which promote collaboration between your peers and professors. Each degree path includes clinical or practicum requirements, putting your skills to work and expanding your professional network. These courses are taught by expert doctoral faculty who are experienced educators with relevant real-world experience, including senior leadership roles.

Admissions Requirements

Admission decisions for acceptance into Kennesaw State University’s Leadership in Nursing Program Master of Science in Nursing are based on overall evaluation of the following components:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing from a nationally accredited institution with a satisfactory GPA of at least 3.0
  • Current unencumbered RN licensure in the state of practice (submit copy)
  • A formal statement of personal goals for the program
  • Undergraduate research course
  • Two professional letters of reference
In the Summer of 2017, the Wellstar School of Nursing eliminated the GRE as an admissions requirement because research has shown that the examination does not accurately predict student success in graduate nursing programs. The years of experience requirement was eliminated or reduced to allow earlier entry into the graduate programs. These changes reduce barriers to entry and, over time, will result in more MSN-prepared graduates in the workplace.
