Creating Curriculum Maps for Programs

A program-level curriculum map shows where each program student learning outcome (PSLO) is taught and assessed. A curriculum map should be developed as part of a new program proposal to ensure there is alignment between the expected PSLOs and the learning opportunities provided in the required courses. For existing programs, a new curriculum map should be developed if the program makes any changes to their core program requirements and/or assessments.

A basic program curriculum map should include the following:

  1. All PSLOs.
  2. All program requirements (courses and experiences) all students in a program are expected to complete.
  3. Indicators to show which courses address each outcome and where each outcome is assessment for the program-level assessment of student achievement of the PSLOs.

Curriculum maps can also include a high-level overview of a program’s assessment plan by adding the assessment schedule for each PSLO as well as the assessment instruments/measures used to assess each PSLO.
