Making and Maintaining an Assessment Plan

Each academic program must develop and maintain an active Assessment Plan, which documents how the program measures and assesses student achievement of their program student learning outcomes (PSLOs).

Please carefully review our instructions for developing an assessment plan for assessing ALL PSLOs.

We have two templates to choose from for your assessment plan.
You may use the traditional, report style assessment plan template or you may use a more condensed table style template.

Regardless of the template you use, your assessment plan must include all information specified in the instructions linked above.

PLEASE NOTE: To support student success efforts, the assessment plan template also instructs programs to identify one student success outcome they are focusing on for continuous improvement.

Depending on program needs, programs may focus on recruitment, retention, time-to-completion, or graduation rates. Please see the instructions linked above for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: All rubrics, test items, and other measures must be included either in the Measures section or in the Appendix of the Assessment Plan. Please include all items in one document (do not upload multiple documents when you submit your assessment plan).

Review this checklist to ensure all criteria are met for Assessment Plan approval.

Review Checklist

Special Circumstances for Select Accredited Programs

If your program is modifying the outcomes and/or measures in an approved assessment plan, please use the updated Assessment Plan Instructions and Templates to update your assessment plan. When you have a draft completed, please email it to assessment@kennesaw.edu for review and approval. Changes to an assessment plan should not disrupt the assessment process.  Programs should continue to collect data as specified in your original assessment plan.  Once your updated assessment plan is approved, programs should start collecting data as specified in the new plan during the next year.

For New or Modified Programs

For new or existing program proposals in Curriculog, please follow the steps below to obtain approval of the Assessment Plan.

Assessment Plan Approval Form

Step 1: Use the Assessment Plan Instructions and Templates to develop your assessment plan if you are submitting a new program proposal or if you are making changes to an existing program that will impact your current assessment plan.  Contact the Assessment Office (assessment@kennesaw.edu) to discuss the Assessment Plan for the new or modified program.

Note for Accredited Programs: Accredited programs who have an approved exception to the KSU AoL reporting process may use their self-study assessment plan documentation, as long as the self-study reports annual assessment results and strategies for improvement of student learning. Use of the above Assessment Plan Template is not required, but the assessment plan documented in the self-study files should be adjusted to align with any curriculum changes.

Step 2: Only after the assessment plan has been reviewed, modified as needed, and approved, complete the fields and the summary description on the Assessment Plan Approval Form.

Step 3: Follow the instructions on the Assessment Plan Approval Form to obtain the approval signature of either the Director of Academic Assessment (for new programs, non-accredited programs, and accredited programs following the AoL reporting process) or your college Associate Dean for Assessment (for accredited programs with an approved exception to the KSU AoL reporting process).

Step 4: Upload the signed Assessment Plan Approval Form into Curriculog.

Please plan accordingly and allow 1-2 weeks for the above process to occur, and thank you for your commitment to assessment and continuous improvement at KSU!

Please email assessment with questions.
