The Kennesaw State University Institute for Cybersecurity Workforce Development is pleased to announce that Tammy King is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Outstanding Student of the Year award.
This award recognizes an exemplary student from the cybersecurity program that completed the degree program in the 2022-2023 academic year. Faculty members nominate students, with the institute directors selecting the winners.
King is a hard-working and dedicated student who has excelled in both academic pursuits and community involvement. She graduated in May 2023. Originally from New Jersey, this exceptional student currently resides in Union, KY with a loving family of five children and a significant other named Brandon. While maintaining a full-time role as an Incident Response Analyst at Starr Companies, King has set her sights on transitioning into the cyber intel sector. Outside of a busy professional life, she finds solace in baking, crafting, and enjoying quality family time. The passion also extends to supporting the Yankees and basking on the beach.
With a desire to a secure digital future for young and old alike, King has shown a fervent ambition to spearhead an initiative aimed at integrating cybersecurity into her county’s school district curriculum.
King’s journey at Kennesaw State University was marked by exceptional time management and self-motivation, qualities that were instrumental in balancing a demanding family life, a full-time job, and rigorous academic commitments.
The crowning jewels in King’s academic journey were her consistent inclusion on the Dean’s the President’s Lists, leading to a triumphant graduation with Summa Cum Laude honors. Beyond these accomplishments lies the rich tapestry of relationships woven with peers and faculty at KSU.
"Earning my degree was my biggest accomplishment,” King said. “I set high standards for myself and I am proud to have achieved them. However, the relationships I've formed at KSU are invaluable and will last long after my graduation."
In the competitive cybersecurity environment, King stands out not just for personal achievements but for a commitment to elevating the collective.
"I believe I am the best candidate for this award because I made it my mission to uplift others alongside my journey,” she said. “The KSU cyber program taught me that we are stronger together and collaboration is the key to a safer digital world."
