Scrappy’s Pitch Competition

Are you an innovator or entrepreneur with a new idea or early-stage business who wants the chance to win a $1,000 prize? You will receive valuable feedback from expert judges and could win one of ten $1,000 prizes. 

No business/entrepreneurial knowledge is required. Training sessions (virtual and face-to-face) will be provided.

  • Time:
    • Networking 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
    • Pitches and Awards 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided
  • There will be up to four divisions
    • Division 1 - Junior Entrepreneurship Student (currently taking ENTR3001)
    • Division 2 - Senior Entrepreneurship Student (currently taking a 4000-level entrepreneurship course)
    • Division 3 - Graduate Entrepreneurship Student (Evening MBA, EMBA, WMBA)
    • Division 4 - Other KSU Student
  • The winner of each division will win $1,000.
  • DEADLINE to register to compete: April 8th, 2025 at 11:59 pm.
  • Invitations to compete will be sent to the email used to register for the competition by 11:59 pm on April 7th, 2025. Competitors must accept the invitation no later than 11:59 pm on April 9th, 2025. If more competitors register than spaces allow, a waitlist will be created.

Competition Rules and Judging Criteria

  • There is no entry fee to attend or participate in Scrappy’s Pitch Competition.
  • Teams may register to compete, but the presenter must own a majority share of the concept or company.
  • The competition is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Competitors must reside within Georgia.
  • This competition is geared towards early-stage businesses and ideas. If the Doug and Robin Shore Center team deems an idea too far along, the team may be disqualified from the competition.
  • The venue will be divided into up to ten flights for the competition. Student and Community competitors will be assigned to separate flights. Contestants will pitch only in their designated flights, and judges in that flight will determine the winner.
  • Only one person can pitch; however, if needed, a team member in the audience can assist in answering a question.
  • An easel will be available for posters no larger than 18 in X 24 in. The presenter may also use notecards or showcase a prop/prototype to help convey the idea. However, no slides/presentations will be allowed.
  • Contestants will have 3 minutes to pitch followed up to 5 minutes to answer questions from the judges.
  • All ideas pitched must be the original work of the entrants.
  • Contestants earned income must less than $100k to qualify.
  • Contestants will receive judging criteria based on the flight for which they are invited to compete. However, the general judging criteria for concept and business pitches include:
Main Criteria (should be within the 3 minutes)
Information about the problem (pain point)
Product/service information; how it solves problem (value proposition)
Who will buy it and why (target market)?
What’s next? (Potential impact of the $1k and the short-term roadmap)
Easy to remember
