KENNESAW, Ga. | Feb 25, 2020
Festival cancelled due to COVID-19; will not be rescheduled this year.
UPDATE 3/17/20: The Spring Arts Festival has been CANCELLED due to COVID-19.
Art lovers of all ages will find just about every type of visual art at the School of Art and Design’s (SOAAD) annual Spring Arts Festival on Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. This free indoor/outdoor community event will feature workshops, demonstrations and events along with an Artists Market of local and traveling artists offering a myriad of art for sale.
From activities such as jewelry making, Asian calligraphy, and an art history scavenger
hunt, to demonstrations in blacksmithing and forging, RAKU style ceramics firing,
and printmaking, there is something for everyone at the festival. New events at the
festival include a fashion show created and curated by Apparel Textile and Technology
students, a 3D Printing and Virtual Reality demonstration highlighting these growing
technologies, and Picasso Portraits, a unique art project where patrons may create
artwork inspired by the famous painter using magnetic pieces.
Outdoors, patrons will find the Artists Market, food trucks and vendors, and performing musicians and dancing ballerinas. Watch as a large mural is created before your eyes by SOAAD students. The Zuckerman Museum of Art (ZMA) will host Chalk the ZMA, a sidewalk chalk event in collaboration with Cobb County Schools, as well as Story Time in the Galleries and curator-led tours of the museum. Be sure to also check out the annual Pin-up Show, featuring artwork created by local primary and secondary school students and awards will be given out to the best artworks in several categories.
Come see an iron pour firsthand or watch a glass blowing demonstration, or even try your hand at digital drawing and painting or create your own comic strip. The Spring Arts Festival 2020 will give you a creative boost and maybe even teach you a new form of art! This free community event will be held rain or shine on March 21 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
