Spring 2025 Research Forums at Kennesaw State University: Celebrating Scholarly and Creative Excellence

KENNESAW, Ga. | Apr 2, 2025

Experience the Geer College of the Arts Undergraduate and Faculty Research Forums featuring a mix of live and virtual presentations.

As the vibrant colors of spring bloom at Kennesaw State University (KSU), the Geer College of the Arts (GCA) proudly presents the return of the Spring Undergraduate and Faculty Research Forums. Join our outstanding student researchers and faculty from April 16 through April 18 as they showcase their intellectual and creative endeavors before a live audience of their peers. These undergraduate and faculty events are a major part of the GCA’s contribution to Kennesaw State University's broader Symposium of Student Scholars and provide an outlet for the presentation and discussion of research from students and faculty alike.

The Symposium of Student Scholars elevates all students and provides a platform for them to present their work professionally. This university-wide effort aims to promote high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and represents the wide range of disciplinary practices studied at KSU. The research forums hosted by the GCA achieve this goal by creating an environment where students and faculty can interact with others, investigate new ideas, and innovate to solve real-world problems.

Student submissions for this year's undergraduate research forums feature many interesting topics. One featured presentation, “A Kennel Built from the Inside: Dog Act & the Sacrifice of Agency,” was researched by Mitch Witcher and explores the themes demonstrated by a character in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies performance of Dog Act. While presentations like Mitch Witcher's research will be performed live, there will also be a wide range of virtual presentations and posters contributing to the GCA’s part in the Symposium of Student Scholars.

For the Faculty Research Forum, notable faculty presentations include Dr. Jeff Yunek’s unique presentation on the relationship between music and characters in Rimsky-Korsakov's Kashchey the Immortal, and Cynthia Thompson’s exploration of the potential museums demonstrate as a refuge for health and well-being. Other faculty, both presenting and acknowledged, will include Autumn Eckman, Jaqueline Springfield, and Benjamin Wadsworth.

The Spring 2025 Council for Undergraduate Research Symposium of Student Scholars, hosted by the GCA, will take place from April 16-18, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., in Prillaman Hall, Indoor Plaza, on the Kennesaw campus. The Spring Faculty Research Forum will be held on April 17 at 3 p.m. in the ZMA Atrium. Both events are free and open to the public.
