The College of the Arts at Kennesaw State University (KSU) is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 ArtsKSU Season, featuring the School of Art and Design, the Department of Dance, the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, and the Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music. Interim Dean Harrison Long said, “Every year, we welcome over 30,000 patrons to events produced by our four distinct units. The arts at KSU are essential to the cultural fabric of our institution and to greater Atlanta.”

Transdisciplinary Experiences
At the School of Art and Design’s Zuckerman Museum of Art, the ZMA will present two major exhibitions: Oscar Muñoz reCollections and The Gravity of Beauty. Geo Sipp, Chair of the School of Art and Design, says, “We intentionally curate artistic experiences that are transdisciplinary, serving the educational mission of an academic art museum, reaching across academic units while also serving our community and region.”

Diverse Stories
“We are excited to present a wonderfully diverse and dynamic array of stories: contemporary plays, musicals, and showcases of original work—over 20 different events throughout the year,” says Chuck Meacham, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies. The season kicks off with Stephen Sondheim’s Company, a perfect season opener to celebrate a titan of American Musical Theatre visionaries lost this year. In December, The Broadway Boys takes the stage. A collection of singers from Broadway shows, The Broadway Boys add elements of pop, funk, and gospel to traditional musical theatre show tunes to create a whole new mash-up and sound.

Choreographic Dynamism
“This year’s Dance season celebrates the breadth of choreographic dynamism and diversity with formidable concerts that express the poetic power and virtuosity of concert dance,” explains Marsha Barsky, Chair of the Department of Dance. The 2022-2023 season opens with Double Exposure, made possible by the Eleo Pomare/Glen Conner Endowment. Original works by Tsai Tsi Hung and Chuck Wilt will be presented in the double bill concert on Aug. 26 and 27. On Nov.11 and 12, enjoy the faculty and guest artist concert Carte Blanche, performed by KSU Dance Company.

Music Exploration
The season kicks off with the Hispanic Heritage Festival in September, featuring faculty and students sharing the stage with Colombian conductor Germán Gutiérrez and bandoneon player Daniel Binelli. In November, the Americana Festival will celebrate the United States with brass, choirs, winds, timed with Veteran’s Day. On December 3, the School will present the Holiday Concert, a family favorite. Julia K. Bullard, Interim Director of the Bailey School of Music, says, “I encourage our patrons to join us for their favorite concerts, and to even attend something that’s new to them. It may become a new favorite!”

Creative Laboratories
Long added, “Students are at the center of everything we do. Our classrooms, studios, galleries, and stages are creative laboratories where students flourish as artists, scholars, entrepreneurs and engaged citizens. Join us this year and be a part of that transformation!”
